International Women’s Day – The Other Way
The IMC Ladies’ Wing celebration of the 100 years of International Women’s Day conclave was met with a huge reception. The who’s who of the city was present at this high-profile event which was up for one significant cause – Women Empowerment!
And there were…
The prominent guests who attended this 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day were Kokilaben Ambani, Chanda Kochar, Indira Jaising (Additional Solicitor General of India – Supreme Court), Arti Surendranath, Raell Padamsee, Poonam Dhillon, Kalpana Shah, Meenal Bajaj, Smita Dandekar, Kiran Sippy, Sabira Merchant, Vanita Bhandari (who was on the organizing committee for the event).
At the event, a highly-acclaimed panel – including many of the influential Women of society including Priya Dutt, Lillete Dubey, Dr. Jamuna Pai, Sangeeta Pendurkar, Jaqueline Lundquist — discussed issues related to Women from all walks of life, be it from the rural or the urban background. All issues like – gender equality, reservation of seats, harassment at the workplace, etc. – were deliberated.
They put forth ideas as to what women themselves and the government can do to allow women to “forge ahead.”
Dream Girl, Hema Malini, and her daughters (Esha & Ahana Deol) presented a beautiful blend of classical dance ballet to celebrate the achievements of women with emphasis on the girl child.
Women Power, we say!
To commemorate hundred years of the celebration of women’s day, two social initiatives were launched:
- Legal aid & counseling
- Launch of a microfinance facility to help marginalized women.
